Note: Microsoft Windows does not support DVD playback unless you use a version of Windows which contains Windows Media Center. Windows 7 Home and Windows 7 Pro both contain Windows Media Center. Windows 8.1 Home does not contain Windows Media Center and it is not available with Windows 8.1 (standard edition) without an upgrade to Windows Pro Pack ($99.99 from Microsoft). However, Microsoft does offer an upgrade to Windows Media Center (which is capable of DVD playback) with Windows 8.1 Pro ($9.99 from Microsoft). If you desire to use your PC as an HTPC or for DVD playback, we recommend using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 Pro (and upgrading to Windows Media Center). Alternatively, there are quite a few free DVD playback programs available.
