Intel® Socket 1151 6th Generation/7th Generations CPUs (also known as Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs) are Intel's newest generation in consumer oriented CPUs. Socket 1151 CPUs are based on 14nm technology (compared to the 22nm technology of Haswell Socket 1150 CPUs). 6th generation Skylake CPUs continue to improve functionality and speed compared to previous generations of CPUs (Haswell and Broadwell Socket 1150 CPUs).
Improvements made to Socket 1151 (over Socket 1150 Haswell and Broadwell) are centered around improvements in graphics support. Intel has nearly doubled graphics performance in the latest line of CPUs, has expanded 4K support, and has expanded support for DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.4, and Open CL 2.0.
