Frequently Asked Question

Question: Which parts should I replace first in order to eliminate computer noise?

Answer:

We usually recommend first replacing the BIG THREE SOURCES of computer noise:

  1. The Power Supply
  2. The CPU Fan
  3. The Case Fan - if applicable

These three parts are usually the noisiest components.

Four - Noisy Hard Drive

Next, you can evaluate whether the spinning of your Hard Drive is too noisy for you or not. Many hard drives are made quieter nowadays. However, if your hard drive is too noisy, you might consider replacing it with the quietest available, the quiet Western Digital S12 Hard Drives. Or, you can cool your hard drive with Smart Drive Enclosure or a Nexus Drive-A-Way Hard Drive Enclosure.

Five, Six - Video Card Fan and Motherboard Chipset Fan

The other components to consider replacing in your computer are, your Video Card Fan and Motherboard Chipset Fan. Your video card fan can be replaced with a Zalman Silent Video Fan. Your motherboard chipset fan can be replaced with a Zalman Motherboard Heatsink.

Finally - Consider Case Insulation & Noise Dampening Techniques

Finally, if you want to further reduce the noise of your computer, you can use sound insulation and dampening techniques. Keep in mind, however, that computer insulation can sometimes cause enough of a rise in computer case temperature to require the addition of a case fan.

Fan vibration isolators, rubber grommets, and noise dampening quiet computer feet are also great noise dampening touches which work well in unearthing every last source of noise in your quiet computer.
